Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS WINDOW TINTING?

Window tinting is the process in which we apply film to any of the glass surfaces on the vehicle to darken the shade of the vehicle or to specifically create a level of comfort inside the vehicle’s interior so that those hot summers are not as hot.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF WINDOW TINTING?

There are three core advantages of window tinting – the primary reason you are going to tint your windows on your vehicle is to reject the heat coming in the summer. Heat insulation is also present throughout the winter months as well, when your car is parked and it cools off in the cold winter, it will stay warmer.  The second reason for tinting your vehicle is the aesthetics.  It’s noticeably a way more aesthetically pleasing vehicle with the four windows and back glass tinted, and looks substantially better than how it comes stock.  The third value without a doubt is privacy and that’s within the laws of Tennessee, Knoxville particularly.  The tint laws allow 30% tint on the front windows, and there is no regulation on the back windows.  So as dark as you can get it for privacy sake is without a doubt a big value.

AM I ABLE TO GET MY WINDOWS TINTED WITH NO COLOR?

You can get window tint in all sorts of shades. Particularly on the higher quality film.  The darkness of the shade actually does not matter with regards to heat rejection or any of the properties.  So you still have the same amount of heat rejection with even a complete transparent film.  Often we’ll put a very low shade on the windshield for enhanced clarity of the film as well.  When the sun shines through the windshield and hits the different rays – beams of the glass it’s absorbed a lot better with the ceramic Infrared films which reduces glare.

HOW DURABLE IS THE WINDOW TINTING AND HOW LONG SHOULD I EXPECT IT TO LAST?

Window tint is expected to last for the length of the vehicle’s life. Moisture may get trapped under the vehicle during an installation and that is completely covered, with bubbles being covered in warranty very often. The warranty of manufacturers is 10 years, however, at GNJ we cover the window tint for life.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO KEEP MY WINDOWS UP AFTER INTIAL APPLICATION?

One of the best ways to ruin a brand new window tint is to roll your windows down immediately as you are driving off of our lot.  With that said, you want to keep your windows rolled up for at least a full day.  However, we recommend two days without rolling down the windows.  The window film is applied with moisture, therefore, the risk of the film in the first 24 hours of slipping on the glass is extremely high.  So to reduce any slippage with regards to the film we advise keeping the windows rolled up for at least two days, at minimum one day.

WHAT ARE THE LAWS REGARDING WINDOW TINT IN TENNESSEE?

In Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, and the state of Tennessee in general, window tint laws are in accordance with the other 50 states. There is no limit with regards to the rearview window, or the back two windows, but there is a limit on the front windows. Film on the front windows is 30%, which you will find surprisingly lighter than what most people have on the road.

WHY DO I SEE BUBBLES IN MY WINDOW TINT?

One of the most common problems during installation of window tint is moisture potentially getting trapped under the film.  In the very beginning of the installation or day of the installation is very common to see bubbles in the film, and it looks almost like smearing under the film.  That’s the moisture trapped under the film, and 99% of the time these bubbles go away over time with the vehicle being in the heat. Sometimes moisture may come later during the vehicle’s tint installation and it can form bubbles.  If bubbles appear later in the installation or are occurring in the vehicle on the surface of the glass then bring the car back immediately and we will either replace the film or fix the bubbles free of charge.

HOW DO I PROPERLY CLEAN AND CARE FOR MY WINDOW TINT?

Although window tinting is very durable, we don’t want to go crazy with regards to cleaning the windshield. We recommend a micro fiber towel and using a very light solvent cleaner.  Solvent cleaner typically contains alcohol in the solution. Using this cleaner, a gentle wipe with the micro fiber towel just as you would clean the interior windows of your house is the preferred method.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET WINDOW TINT APPLIED?

Depending on the package of the window tint, it can take between 1 and 4 hours. The door/passenger obviously can be completed within the shortest amount of time, just an hour.  But a complete tint of the vehicle, including the windshield, could take a half day and could potentially take up to day at its lengthiest install.

CAN I WASH MY CAR AFTER MY APPOINTMENT?

You can absolutely wash your car after the appointment, just don’t scrub the windows on the inside. Be sure to only wash on the outside of the vehicle as the window film is applied on the inside, at least until the recommended two days have passed and your tint has set properly.
